Introduction

This website is dedicated to exploring the rich history of Japanese dance through the pictures and paintings contained in the collection of Dr. Alkis Raftis, a prominent dance historian and the president of the International Dance Council CID-UNESCO. The main aim of this site is to provide dance researchers, historians as well as general public with valuable insights into the history of Japanese dances.   

  This web archive includes digitalized images of dance representations in Japan from different periods of time. It is also intended to develop broader database of materials regarding dances in Japan by asking the cooperation with researchers in the common interests all around the world. Thus we provide the platform for all parties interested to share the information and knowledge.
